Deep Tissue Massage
Deep Tissue Massage, or Sports Massage, is a hands-on manipulative treatment aimed at the deep tissue structures within muscle and fascia. It employs techniques from Swedish, Shiatsu and other forms of massage. Over time, we accumulate “knots” that are due to tension and strain. A thorough deep tissue massage releases these knots in a way that is both corrective and therapeutic.
Why Should I Have a Sports Massage?
Traditional massage is meant for relaxation. Sports massage focuses on healing issues such as muscle spasms, sports injuries, chronic pain, fibromyalgia and repetitive strain injuries (carpal tunnel syndrome, for example). If you are experiencing muscle pain or discomfort, a deep tissue massage may be the perfect treatment for you.
Does Deep Tissue Massage Hurt?
At times during the massage, some patients experience some discomfort brought on by the direct pressure applied to the muscles. It is important for you to let your Visions HealthCare practitioner know if you are feeling pain during the treatment, so that you will receive the best care possible. There may also be some soreness following the session, but those who receive regular deep tissue massage report feeling significantly better than before the massage within a day or two.
